The GigRig Isolator

TheGigRig Isolator is the crowning glory of our modular power supply solution.

Each of the Isolator's 4 outputs deliver a very clean, isolated 9v DC supply and it is engineered to provide the ultimate power for your 9v pedals.
Its compact, lightweight design also helps keep your pedalboard light, small and free from bulky/heavy power supplies.

Using a combination of the Generator, Distributors, Isolators and Adapters, the system can be configured to provide isolated power to nearly every pedal and every voltage out there.

Setting the Isolator(s) up on your pedal board is easy. Each Isolator comes with 4 cut-to-length solderless dc power cables. You simply cut the dc cables to the length you need, then plug the cables into the terminal block. The black side goes into the black tab and the white stripe side goes into the white tab. Press each tab down and the cables are connected, there's no need for solder!

Designed to work as part of The GigRig Modular Power Supply, you can power as many Isolators as you need using the Generator and Distributor.

My pedals are now in lockdown.

High quality isolated outputs for 4 pedals that mean ZERO noise from tricky vintage devices. Simple and offers peace of mind.

Purchased w/ Power Base Pack 1 - Owned since April 2020. Sound quality and ability to adjust your board to exactly what you need is unmatched. My own opinion on the design is, is it feels like function over form - everything is very light, which is great, but the plastic does create doubts over durability. Some of the design graphics are in my opinion are not "cool". But that is all subjective, the actual performance of the power supply is fantastic, I now have a board that is always set up and its just a case of flicking a switch to start playing. I definitely think the modular approach is great because I've already expanded my board (bought a 2nd isolator) and the other supply I considered would be too small already. Getting quicker at rebuilding every time I change it too. Happy customer!

This is very small and consequently it is easy to find room for it on your pedalboard. The fact that you are able to cut the power cables to suit is fantastic. There is no unwanted noise whatsoever (at least not that I could hear). Very satisfied.

    GigRig Isolator

Let me start by saying I understand and appreciate the concept of this, and indeed, the whole modular system. I applaud the thinking behind it, and once working, it does the job as described. In that sense, it is all positive.

What, in my opinion, lets down this fine idea is the execution. For what I am assuming are reasons of cost, this item is made almost exclusively for plastic. Crucially, this is most applicable to the tabs with which you secure the wiring. These have to bear an inordinate amount of force because pressing them down forms the wire over the terminal, as well as breaking the sheath to expose the wire, and thus make electrical contact accordingly.

The tabs are simply not robust enough for this task. Indeed, just below the top where you press down, the plastic is reduced to just one side of the tab, and it is really thin. Couple this with the tiny surface area onto which you have to press, and it really is asking way too much of the material.

Again, I assume its construction is down to reasons of cost. A simple screw akin to a common electrical terminal block would be far better. Yes, you would have to strip the end of the wire, but I would far rather do that than the system used here.

Also, there is no specialised tool with which to press the tabs down. Indeed, the recommendation is to use the cutters you have just used to crop the wire. These are manifestly unsuitable for the job, as are most tools, which are typically metal.

The amount of force required to press the tab home is far greater than it should be. It also stresses the block in which the terminals sit, causing them to crack. A brand new Isolator at just under £65 delivered can pretty soon look mangled and secondhand.

In conclusion, the concept is excellent. I am not complaining without reason, and I am a regular viewer of That Pedal Show. I think that a great idea has been undermined by poor execution.

    Silence is Golden

The Isolator solderless cables connectors are hard to press down. I didn't get them to work at first, as I worried about damagaging something by using too much force. It turns out it requires a lot, and I wasn't able to do it without a metal tool to concentrate the force.

On the positive side, my pedal board is much tidier now, and *much* quieter. I only have three pedals, but using a daisy chain previously I would occasionally have a lot of noise. Since switching to the Generator+Isolator there's been none.

Like all the GigRig kit, these are really nicely made, easy to install, and result in noiseless pedals. Great service and great products.

For a pedalboard newbie starting out a build was a daunting project but not only did the gig rig team give me the right advice they also kindly offered this NHS worker a deal. They did not need to do that. I spent a few days and watched many of Dans pedalboard builds ( essential in my opinion) to put together a thing of beauty. It is so quiet that I have now ditched my Boss Noise suppressor and put a Triangular Big Muff in its space, Thanks Dan and the team
